TULALIP, Wash. An ailing gray whale that has beached itself three times in the past week near Everett apparently is being attacked by killer whales.
A Tulalip resident who lives on a bluff facing the water says she saw two orcas ramming a gray whale Monday afternoon. Maureen McGannon told The Daily Herald she saw the whale move into shallow water to get away.
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration spokesman Brian Gorman has said a whale that repeatedly beaches itself is likely to die.
A KOMO-TV helicopter spotted a gray whale swimming Tuesday morning in deeper water near Tulalip, which appeared to be the same whale.
