Cookie the Orca Whale!

by Karrie Keyes

Students enrolled in Renee Warner's two - three year preschool class at the Montessori School of Ojai have adopted Cookie the Orca Whale through the Whale Museum. The students are currently learning about oceanography. The students were able to decide if they wanted to adopt a penguin, grey whale or an Orca whale. They choose an Orca Whale named Cookie. The children will receive monthly updates on Cookie and learn how they can preserve the natural habitat for all Orcas Whales. Many children have been checking the web site to learn more about Cookie and are very excited about the program. Continuing their lessons on oceanography, the students will be visited by Captain Carl and his touch tanks brimming with sea life.

The Montessori School of Ojai students are actively involved in community activities and the celebration of fundamental human values. At MSO, children learn and grow with a strong sense of relationship to all other members of the community. The nurturing of self-confidence and independence is a goal of every MSO teacher. Their support of each individual helps students feel that they can, through their own efforts, contribute to their society and to the world around them.
