Famous Ambassador of the Ocean Talks at The Washington Center

by John Dodge

Jean-Michel Cousteau follows his father's footsteps by teaching conservation and protection
One of the most recognized voices to ever speak on behalf of the beauty, mystery and continued decline of the world's oceans will be in Olympia next week to share his wisdom and offer a call to action.

Jean-Michel Cousteau, 69, has spent more than 40 years carrying on the ocean-exploring and educating tradition started by his father, Jacques Cousteau, a pioneer in underwater diving and filming and producer of the television series "The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau."

Those shows 40 years ago introduced the public to the world of sharks, dolphins, whales, coral reefs and sunken treasure, a world the younger Cousteau continues to represent through his production of about 75 documentary films, environmental activism and educational programs aimed at turning children into ambassadors for the seas.

He will be at The Washington Center for the Performing Arts from 7 to 8:30 p.m. March 15 for a talk entitled "The Great Ocean Adventure."
