A POD of five or six killer whales was seen by the ferry crew heading east through Yell Sound in the early afternoon on Wednesday.

The killer whales, properly known as orcas, were spotted around 2.50pm from the Daggri, as the ferry was leaving Ulsta to cross the sound to Toft.

Although sightings of killer whales are not uncommon in Yell Sound, crew member Iain Nicolson said it was unusual to see them there so early in the year.
